RE: satellite question

You can use your Directv receiver and remote. Camping World has the satellite antenna (Directv), tripod, satellite finder on sale now. The antenna comes with 25' of cable. If you have the single Tv connection hook up in your camper with the amplifier button for using the roof top antenna. Remove this connection plate and install one that has 2 tv connections, one for cable or satellite and one for the roof top antenna. On the back of the single hook up is a 3 cable connection, disconnect the one labled cable and connect it to the cable or satellite connector on the 2 connector plate. Connect the other two cables as they were connected on the single connection plate. Now, you can go from the cable or satellite connector to your receiver and from there to your TV. To watch Tv with the roof top antenna, disconnect the Tv cable for the receiver and connect it to the roof top connector punch the amp button and you are good to go. Hope this helps you a little.

RE: winter camping

Go to you favorite Lowe's and purchase the Easy Heat Cable with Thermostat. It comes in all different lengths. You will need the special Electrical Tape 3M Temflex No.50348 & Shurtape (aluminum tape)which also should be in stock. Follow the instructions on the Easy Heat Cable package. I did not use the fiberglass insulation but the Self Sealing Hard Foam Tubes. Mine works very well in 14 degree weather.:B I wrapped a 25ft. hose for about 40 dollars. Beats paying the $395 for the advertised hose.:B Most of you campers now days have a covered underbody. If you use your heater at night, we set ours at 50 degrees, that keeps the water in the pipes from freezing. Some campers also have tank heaters.

RE: Changing Tires

If you have Dexter Axles you should use the camper frame and not the axles. Dexter says "Do not lift or support the trailer on any part of the axle or suspension system"

RE: INSURE?

Guess I will put in my 2 cents worth. I use the Good Sam Continued Service Plan which ends in 2011 for $323.00. Replaces or repairs the Hot Water Heater, Fresh Water System, Heating and AC System, Refrigerator, Slide Out, Jack Assy, Brake Assy, and Electrical System Damage breaker and circuit panel, Plus Car Rental and Hotel and Meals if my camper is in maintance.
Next because All State could only cover my camper with liability and collision and a deprecation value if totaled, I elected to go with Good Sam Vehicle Insurance. I have $250 deductible on Collision/Liability or replacement cost, towing, $3,000 on Personal Effects, Lodging and Travel Expenses while camper is in for repair, plus if my camper is totaled while it is under 5 years old complete replacement of camper with a new/like model or purchase price in cash. This policy runs me $400 a year. Some might say I'm over insured, I'd rather be safe than sorry. After my camper is over 5 years old I'll rethink the matter.

RE: 08 gmc 1500 w/ 6.0 motor

I tow with a 2007 Chev. 1500 6.0L Vortex Max 4X4 3.73 rear axle. Takes regular fuel. Has the big transmission with oil cooler. Pulling my 31E I get 9 to 10mpg at 60mph. Don't know what you are towing with now but if your going to go to a bigger camper you might want to step up in the tow vehicle.

RE: Help!! Questions about the Prodigy brake controller

Without your camper hooked up.........you should have 2 red dots showing. With the camper hooked up "properly" you should have 2 red dots with a "c" in the middle showing connected. With the camper disconnected and you engine turned off, your two red dots will go out to save your battery. They will come back on when the engine is started. With the camper hooked up, pull you camper about 60 to 70 feet and apply brake peddle. This will heat up your camper brakes. Do this about 2 to 3 times, stop and place tow vehicle in park. Move the manual knob to the left and using the roll knob adjust the controller to 6.0 volts . Now you should be set to travel. The boost button on the right of the controller sets the amount of brake that the camper will apply compared to the tow vehicle. In park, move the lever to the left and punch the button on the controller, once is 6.1, twice is 6.2, and three is 6.3. Most settings is 6.2 meaning the camper will apply brakes first and help the tow vehicle to stop, 6.3 is mainly used on steep hills going down to keep from burning out the tow vehicle brakes. Last but not least you should have received an instruction booket with the Prodigy, if not write for one. I use mine as a back up all the time.

RE: trailer leveling

I use a small 12" bubble level on the inside lip of the front storage door for fore and aft. For left and right I use the inside floor of the front storage area. You can also use the floor just inside the main door.

RE: jayco tire clearance 08 25F

Those of you that are having problems, when you call Jayco as for John Johnston. He is a Good Tech Rep and knows about this problem. I didn't have any problems with Jayco on the replacement, however, you might have problems with your dealer on getting the parts on order and the repair done. My dealer got with Jayco immediately so I guess I pretty lucky.

RE: long travel trailers?????

I always call ahead to the camp ground of choice and give the length of my camper. They will tell you the length of their slots and if they have pull-thrus. I usually ask for a pull-thru because of the ease of parking, however, have backed my 31E into slots without a problem.

RE: Thinking or Regearing Tahoe After Long Trip.

According to the Trailer Life 08 Tow Rating Guide, you axle ratio is is not correct for your engine rating.:( A Tahoe with a 5.3L V8 2WD with a 3.73 rear axle ratio is rated for towing 7500 lbs.:) This would give you less strain on your engine and still give you about 10MPG while towing.:D The 4.1 or 4.3 axle ratio will only eat up you gas mileage.:M Where you go to get regeared, I don't know.:h

RE: I just wanna MAP! grrrrr

Spend the $24.95 for the 2008 Trailer Life Directory and that will solve your problems. Trailer Life also has a CD set of the Directory that you can load into your computer. I carry the Directory in the camper and also have it installed on my computer.

RE: How many hours per tank on a Champion Generator?

Well I guess I must put my 2 cents worth in the pot....so here goes. I have a Champion 4000/3500W 30 Amp, RV Ready ,68db Generator. Notice the 30 Amp and RV Ready! :R It will run anything I want in my camper. Don't need to hook two together to get the power I need and it will pull the 30 Amps that the camper is set up to use. The brand X Generators only will handle 16.7 and 20 Amps and cost a heck of lot more than mine. Last time I was in a camp ground we lost complete power because of a storm. The Champion Generator handled power to my camper and the one next to me with out a problem. No....they did not complain because of the noise, I have an extra 30 ft. cable which placed the gen. set 60 ft. away. They mostly likely would not have complained with only 30 ft. of cable. When the power came back on, the gen. set was shut down. You would be amazed at how many campers came at looked at the CHEAP OPEN FRAME GEN. and wanted to know where to buy one. If the situation demands, I shut the gen. set down at quite hour when in a camp ground. Well, that's my 2 cents worth:B PS: To keep the noise police away I will paint my Champion red and stick a Honda logo on it. It's now quieter that a 2000 Honda and produces twice the power.:R NO..by golly I think I will take the muffler off my Champion Gen., painted it Orange, put a number 20 on the side, and made it NASCAR ready.:B BOY IS IT LOUD!!!!!!!!!:W Happy Camping:B
